Today, I had a conversational interview with Prasanth Ramanand who earned his undergraduate degree from MEC, then went on to complete his Master’s in CS from Carnegie Mellon University and finally graduated from Columbia Business school with an MBA.

It was great listening to him speak about his experiences.

Here are my key takeaways:

  1. Invest in yourself — your growth and your aspirations.
  2. Always have fun and be prepared to remove the safety net from under your feet and be ready to jump on your own to succeed in life.
  3. Learn to give back to society in every little way you can.
  4. Build a portfolio of your own and reach out to people.
  5. Work on projects, develop your Github profile and blog about your learnings.
  6. Participate in activities in college and in your professional settings to develop your leadership skills.
  7. Always evaluate your skill set against where you want to go.
  8. If you don’t have an interest in a particular topic/subject/course, it’s time you move on.
  9. Work with the skills you have got — be it writing, coding, or communicating and strive to be an expert.
  10. If you are planning on pursuing an MBA degree, relevant work experience prior to the degree is pretty important to understand the concepts and develop yourself as a business leader.
